My Shape Back

An abdominoplasty, week by week, from the decision through the long recovery.

A tummy tuck, week by week, as it really went.

About My Shape Back

I’m Rebecca Hale, and I started My Shape Back after my own tummy tuck.

After two pregnancies, my lower stomach never recovered. There was loose skin that no diet touched and a gap down the middle of my abdominal muscles that no amount of core work would close. I went back and forth for years, partly nervous, partly because I could never get a straight answer about what the operation and the recovery were actually like.

Deciding on a tummy tuck, in the end, was the easy part. Understanding what I was committing to was not. I found glossy before-and-after photos and clinic brochures, but very little that explained honestly what the surgery and its risks involved, the difference between a full, mini, and fleur-de-lis, why there was muscle repair and drains, and what the weeks afterwards are genuinely like. So I started keeping a diary, week by week, and writing down everything I wished someone had told me first.

So I built the resource I wish I’d had.

What this site covers

I write about the whole journey, in plain language and from real experience:

I don’t diagnose, recommend specific clinics, or handle emergencies, and nothing here replaces the advice of your own surgeon and care team.

How we keep it accurate

I’m a patient, not a doctor, so every article is medically reviewed by a consultant plastic surgeon, Mr Daniel Okafor, before it’s published. The lived experience is mine; the clinical facts are checked by someone qualified to check them. We cite authoritative sources such as BAAPS, the ASPS, BAPRAS, and the NHS, and show the publication, last-updated, and review dates on every article. See our Editorial Policy for details.
